DIY bookmarks

Heeeeeello Shenise.

I had the pleasure of meeting this girl about five years ago when she needed some help with her master bedroom.  Besides being completely beautiful, she is genuine and gracious, has great style, and is super easy to work with.  Pretty much my favorite client ever.  We started with her master, then to her family room, her boys bedrooms, to her kitchen, and then her office.  In the process of making her house a home, she became a dear friend.  As soon as we had hung the last window treatment, she decided to move her family to Utah and support her husbands law school dream.  I miss her!

Before she left, we met for lunch and she gave me the sweetest card, along with a hand made bookmark.  I loved it so much I decided to make them for my girlfriends who can't keep their noses out of books.

Step 1.  Cut two coordinating ribbons approx 9" in length.  The widest ribbon should be 1".

Step 2.  Fuse the two ribbons together with iron on, Heat n' Bond (Hobby Lobby).

Step 3.  Fasten the 1" crimped end clamps onto both ends of the ribbon.  I ordered these antique copper end clamps {here}.

Step 4.  Fasten charmes to the loops on the end of the clamps.

I found mini frames at HL and printed artwork for them from the {Graphics Fairy}.
I couldn't find antique brass jump rings so I painted gold rings with this Sophisticated Finishes metallic surfacer.

Cute and simple.  Now go cross some gifts off of your Christmas list!

  2. Totally unrelated, but I love the background decorations in the first picture. Where are the cool circles from? Thanks!

  3. Well done Mia! The double layered ribbon and artwork charms are bookstoppers! You've inspired me to make another batch! And FYI - I'm sure all you fellow follwers have already taken note, but just so you know, Mia is an incredibly gifted designer! She transformed my house into a home. A home I loved being in, loved looking at, and loved entertaining in. My husband is well aware that as soon as we're done with law school and settled, I will be giving her a call and even flying her(and Jilly if she'll come, because we know she's got skills as well!) to our home to start the process over again! Luckily, I'm married to a wise man who has grown to appreciate the value and the worth of a lovely home and a happy wife! Thankfully, through common interests and styles I was lead to find treasured friendships in Mia and Jilly!

  4. Question...I ordered the clamps, but they are so much more red than the brass charms I got. Is that really the right color? :( Also, where did you get that ribbon? I can't find it in stores, only online.
